The new K-12 federal education law, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), gives states increased flexibility over assessment, accountability and use of funding. This represents a marked shift in federal control to states, presenting state and local stakeholders with an important opportunity to redefine what student success looks like and the goals of our nation’s education system.

In this webinar, Susan Patrick and Lillian Pace identified key themes in ESSA, provided an overview of the implementation timeline and highlighted opportunities for advancing personalized learning and competency education. The discussion focused specifically on critical next steps for state and local leaders as well as strategies for maintaining the law’s fundamental commitment to equity for all students. Participants learned how to leverage these opportunities in this important crossroads for U.S. K-12 education.
