Join iNACOL and AYPF on Friday, March 22, 2019 for our Capitol Hill Forum, Competency-Based Education: Promising Policies and Practices for the Future of K-12 Education.
How can policymakers examine whether the K-12 educational system is ‘fit for purpose’ and achieving the most basic goals of preparing every student for future success in the workforce as well as in their personal and professional lives? Educators across the globe are designing modern approaches to teaching and learning that focus on every child achieving mastery through competency-based education (CBE). CBE systems are designed to build the knowledge and skills students need for future success. CBE systems provide students with powerful, personalized learning experiences responsive in ensuring all students are prepared for their futures. Instead of ranking students with variable amounts of learning, CBE systems are designed to prepare all students for postsecondary and workforce success by helping them to develop and master key skills for the challenges they will face in the future by focusing on building student agency.
By bringing together national experts and state and district leaders, this forum will highlight the growth of CBE in state policy, the benefits of CBE, and promising practices taking hold in the United States. CBE also enables opportunities for states to align K-12 education with postsecondary education systems and the workforce. This forum will examine federal policy opportunities to advance CBE in the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act, the Every Student Succeeds Act, and the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.
