Amira Learning

10/29/19
9:15 – 10:00 am PT

Brief Description of Tool:
Amira is designed for students learning to read (not pre-readers or those reading to learn.) For most children, this means Amira is helpful from K-3. Amira is the first intelligent reading assistant, able to listen to k-3 students read out loud, assess their mastery and provide interactive tutoring. Amira is powered by AI created over two decades at Carnegie Mellon. We have solved very hard problems like speech recognition for young kids, identifying the root causes of reading miscues and tailoring micro interventions to afford precisely the right tutoring at the right moment. By working 1:1 with struggling students, independent research demonstrates Amira creates massive effect sizes, powering reading growth equivalent to providing a student with their own human tutor.

To make up for the impersonal ratio of 500 students assigned to one counselor, UR Turn is a personalized goal-setting and progress-tracking app that supplements what busy counselors and parents would like to do for students if only they had the time and analytic insight to guide a student along a likely path of success.  We think of our software add-on to parent portals as the Google maps for education, providing decision support intelligence powered by student data and predictive analytics on mobile and web-enabled devices (like a personalized counselor in your pocket).
